Our featured speaker on the topic of “Binding Information to Effective Action: A NonprofitConundrum?” will be Lana Jackman, president of the National Forum on Information Literacy.
Here’s what Lana says about this TNB Roundtable session:
Our evolution into the age of information has been impacted dramatically by the dynamic growth ofinformation and communication technologies (ICTs). Nonprofit organizations have been particularly challenged by their inability to keep pace with this ever evolving, dynamic learning curve. Perhaps, incorporating information literacy practice as a key capacity building tool within nonprofit organizations may not only improve, but also enhance their ability to empower their consumers in addition to undergirding and sustaining both their vision and mission statements.
Here’s a bit more about Lana:
Lana Jackman is the president of the National Forum on Information Literacy (NFIL) and principal of Mélange Information Services, based in Cambridge, MA. Lana aims to mainstream information literacy practice by working closely with collaborators on a local, statewide, national, and international level to promote the empowerment of individuals and communities through information, technology, health and media literacy.
Lana earned her Ph.D. in educational studies from Lesley University, an EdM from Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a B.A. in Politics from University of Massachusetts at Boston. Her research interests focus on information literacy, workforce development, outcomes-based assessment, user education, community based participatory research, charter schools, health literacy, and evidence-based decision making.
