The well is a symbol for community. In ancient times, the well was located at the center of the community and provided water, the basic sustenance for life. The well represented all the social resources of the community that were necessary to endure and thrive. Community members worked together to preserve and strengthen the well.
Our life-giving mission today is to preserve and strengthen ministries that support the most vulnerable among us, those without reliable housing or food. First Church Homeless Ministries includes the First Church Shelter, a 14-bed men’s shelter which for the past 30 years has served neighbors experiencing homelessness in a safe and supportive environment, and The Friday Cafe, which provides meals, clothing, resources and community to 120–200 guests weekly. Join our community and support our well so that it will continue to nourish people in need.
We welcome Dr. Sandro Galea as our featured speaker. Dean of the BU School of Public Health, Dr. Galea is author of Well, a recently published book that examines the subtle and not-so-subtle factors that determine who gets to be healthy in America.
