CASPAR, a homelessness and addiction recovery services provider working on the front line of the opioid epidemic in Massachusetts, proudly hosts its annual spring event, “Strengthening Our Community,” at the offices of Pfizer, 610 Main St., Cambridge on Thursday, March 28, beginning at 6 p.m.
This year, the agency is proud to be presenting the Carl F. Barron Catalyst for Change Award to Life Science Cares, headed by Founder Rob Perez and Executive Director Sarah MacDonald, for their steadfast support of CASPAR and other community organizations working to eradicate poverty and supporting those affected by it. Working with their network of 300+ life science companies and thousands of industry employees, Life Science Cares has funded CASPAR’s Street Outreach van, helped build the transformational Cookin’ With CASPAR volunteer program, and organized donations of critical clothing and other supplies for CASPAR guests. Their innovative approach to philanthropy, tireless dedication to hands-on volunteer work on the ground where it’s most needed, and commitment to bringing together members of Cambridge’s life sciences community have made tremendous positive impacts on the lives of our neighbors in need.
The event will also feature a buffet reception and a live auction, while also celebrating the determination and successes of CASPAR’s clients. Guests will hear inspiring stories of hope—told by individuals who’ve seen their lives immeasurably enriched by CASPAR’s continuum of care, which includes shelter, prevention, education and residential services.

CASPAR (Cambridge and Somerville Programs for Addiction Recovery) is a non-profit organization, founded in 1970 in response to the need for community-based services for those affected by substance use disorders. Since then, CASPAR has built a comprehensive array of outreach, shelter, stabilization, residential, aftercare, education and prevention services that meet the needs of a diverse population of high-risk men, women, children and adolescents. Each day, CASPAR works to alleviate the opioid and homelessness crises in Cambridge and Somerville, providing lifesaving work within the community. In 2014, CASPAR became part of Bay Cove Human Services. To learn more about CASPAR, visit www.casparinc.org.
