Silver Lining Mentoring is currently in need of dedicated, caring adults to become Life Skills Mentors to youth with foster care experience. You don’t need a special background to be a mentor, just a desire to be a supportive, consistent presence to a young adult who needs stable support as they develop life skills. Mentors are required to commit to 12 months of service and must be at least 21 years old.
Nearly 80% of youth in foster care who identify as LGBTQ were removed or ran away from their placements as a result of hostility toward their sexual orientation and/or gender identity. Research shows that access to a consistent positive mentor helps LGBTQ youth in foster care find a sense of belonging.
Silver Lining Mentoring is currently looking for LGBTQ adult mentors to be matched with LGBTQ young people so that we can give our youth the support and role models they deserve! Will you or someone you know be part of the solution by becoming a mentor?
