Room to Grow will host their annual signature Fall Gala, The Sky is the Limit, on Friday, November 4th at 6:30pm at The Westin Boston Waterfront. The event will raise critical funds needed to provide nearly 400 babies in Boston being raised in poverty with a strong start, giving them the opportunity to reach for the stars.
Robert Putnam, Harvard Professor and author of Our Kids: The American Dream in Crisis, will speak about the large numbers of children in Boston who, through no fault of their own, are not able to reach their full potential and the impact that has on the community overall. “In the last 25 years, a disturbing opportunity gap has emerged”, says Putnam. Today, a child’s future is much more likely to be determined by what their parents did or didn’t do, Putnam argues, then the child’s innate abilities.
“At Room to Grow, we are working to bridge that gap. By providing a unique combination of social work and material support for both parents and their children, we are giving babies being raised in poverty in our community hope for a bright future,” says Robyn Carter, Executive Director of Room to Grow in Boston.
Kate Merrill, Emmy award winning journalist for WBZ-TV/CBS Boston, will MC the event which includes a cocktail reception, silent auction, sit-down dinner, and live entertainment by National Recording Artist and Boston Music Award winner, Boston’s own Louie Bello.
A highlight of the event will be honoring Shakiyla Dancy and Nathaniel Pratt-Love, parents of Natalia, who recently graduated from Room to Grow’s three year, comprehensive program that helps children build the strong foundation necessary for success later in life. They will share their experience in the program and their hopes and dreams for their daughter.
