Partners for Youth with Disabilities (PYD) is a nonprofit serving youth in the Greater Boston area. Our mission is to create a world where young people with disabilities can lead self-determined lives filled with dignity, pride, and purpose, with a special focus on mentoring and career readiness. We strive to break down barriers that prevent youth from living up to their full potential.
PYD LEGENDS Awards: Our Three Generational Match of George Donahue – Gregory Walsh – Austin Lam and their families will be honored as champions of mentoring leadership. Read about them below and meet them at the event. A corporate LEGEND will also be recognized and honored, which will be named as soon as they accept the honor.
George Donahue has been a mentor for PYD since nearly its inception. George, who has Multiple Sclerosis, began mentoring Greg when Greg was just a teen. The two formed a bond and developed a caring and supportive friendship, which continues to this day. Greg, who recently celebrated his 40th birthday and also has MS, became a mentor himself when, in his 20s, was matched with then 7-year-old Austin, who was affected by MS in much the same way as Greg. The match not only affected they boys, but the families, as the Walsh family quickly became mentors for the Lam family, providing support and guidance in raising a child with MS. The families continue to spend holidays and vacations together and strengthen each other in friendship and camaraderie.
