FUNDRAISER TO SUPPORT THE WORK OF COMMUNITY COOKS
Cambridge, MA – On Thursday, January 28, Community Cooks will be hosting a fundraiser at The Friendly Toast in Kendall Square.
From 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., The Friendly Toast at 1 Kendall Square will offer a “Friendly Fundraiser,” generously donating 20% of sales to Community Cooks. Diners can help by simply enjoying the restaurant’s delicious offerings: all-day breakfast, burgers, salads, sandwiches, appetizers, entrees, and a full bar. To see a menu, visit www.thefriendlytoast.com.
Donated proceeds will support Community Cooks work to mobilize a diverse network of over 780 volunteer Cooks who prepare and deliver home-cooked meals to 35 partner human service agencies to nourish more than 3,500 of their clients every month. Partner agencies include homeless and domestic violence shelters; programs serving low-income elders, at-risk youth, children/teens in after-school and weekend backpack programs, individuals recovering from addiction, and those living with mental illness.
Although Community Cooks is based in Somerville, its Cambridge presence – and impact – is significant. Over one-third of the organization’s partner programs are located in Cambridge and include East End House, Friday Café at the First Church, Just-A-Start, On The Rise, Transition House, Tutoring Plus, Windsor House and Youth on Fire. Volunteers include over 150 Cambridge residents along with 10 businesses/civic/educational and faith-based cooking teams including Basil Tree Catering, Cambridge Rotary, Cambridge Zen Center, Coldwell Banker – Mass Ave., East Cambridge Savings Bank, EF Education First – EF Cares, Endeavour Partners, First United Presbyterian Church, and Royal Sonesta Hotel.
