Summer is the time to celebrate local food with farmers markets and food festivals! On September 20, 2015 the Sustainable Business Network of Massachusetts (www.sbnmass.org) welcomes you to celebrate the last few days of summer with the most spectacular food festival of all: The Boston Local Food Festival (www.bostonlocalfoodfestival.org).. For the 6th year, the Rose Kennedy Greenway will be transformed into the nation’s largest local and sustainable food hub!
The Boston Local Food Festival is a free outdoor festival that showcases farmers, local restaurants, food trucks, specialty food producers, fisher folks, and organizations that focus on healthy food and fitness from around New England! The Festival is also a zero-waste event. Highlights of the Boston Local Food Festival include 100 vendors and sponsors from across New England including local farmers, restaurants, food trucks, fishers, specialty food producers, and food and fitness-related organizations; Chef and Do-It-Yourself Demos; a Seafood Throwdown; Live Local Music, a Garden Zone, an interactive Family Fun Zone, including health and fitness activities; the “50 by 60” New England Food Vision expansion, and more!
This year at the Boston Local Food Festival, Food Solutions New England is proud to present “The New England Village.” The New England Village will showcase vendors from throughout New England who are committed to and aligned with the 50 by 60 vision, which encourages the region to produce 50% of the food consumed locally by 2060. One of the festival highlights is the “Seafood Throwdown” organized by Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance (NAMA) where local chefs in the community go head to head in a friendly competition to the cook the best dish with the “mystery fish,” and raise awareness of the importance of supporting the fisher folk and fisheries in our community. This year’s theme is “Women in the fisheries and food system.” Come watch inspiring women in our community cook a delicious dishes. You will learn, have fun, and get a taste of this fun event at the festival!
The Boston Local Food Festival is also proud to have the Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance (NAMA) this year again to host the Seafood Throwdown, with this year’s theme “Women in the fisheries and food system.”
At the Boston Local Food Festival, attendees will have the opportunity to get to know local food growers and business owners, enjoy endless tastings, take home food from local food vendors, obtain educational information on food sustainability, jam to live music, and more! We hope you enjoy New England’s largest one day farmers market, while celebrating “Healthy Local Food for All.”
