Farm-to-Table Benefit to Raise Awareness for TheServing Ourselves Farm at Boston’sLong Island Shelter and Showcase Top Culinary Talents
Friends of Boston’s Homeless partners with renowned Boston chefs Karen Akunowicz (Myers + Chang), David Becker (Sweet Basil, Juniper), Chris Douglass (Ashmont Grill, Tavolo), and Jim Solomon (The Fireplace), for an exclusive farm-to-table fall harvest dinner to benefit The Serving Ourselves Farm at Boston’s Long Island Shelter.
The evening will feature a sunset cocktail reception on The Serving Ourselves Farm followed by a four-course dinner by the event’s team of celebrity chefs. Designed to showcase local food purveyors and culinary talent, the dinner will draw on ingredients grown and sourced at the farm. Guests will enjoy an elegant and intimate affair with a relaxed atmosphere featuring family-style food presentation, simple farm-inspired décor, and the company of fellow contributors.
100% of proceeds from the event will benefit Friends of Boston’s Homeless programs to help homeless individuals gain independence through education, employment, life skills development and permanent housing. To date, the annual Fall Harvest Dinner has raised $75,000 and is expected to reach a total of $100,000 this year.

Founded in 1987 by Boston developer, John Rosenthal, Friends of Boston’s Homeless is a 501(C)(3) non-profit corporation that supports innovative, solution-oriented programs to help homeless individuals move beyond shelter to live independent lives in our community. Additionally, through advocacy and education, Friends seeks to increase the public’s awareness and understanding of the realities of homelessness. In partnership with Boston Public Health Commission’s Homeless Services, Friends provides financial, in-kind, and volunteer support to The Serving Ourselves Farm at Boston’s Long Island Shelter.
ABOUT THE SERVING OURSELVES FARM AT BOSTON’S LONG ISLAND SHELTER:
The Serving Ourselves Farm at Boston’s Long Island Shelter feeds hungry bodies, minds, and spirits. The Farm is a 4-acre organic vegetable, flower and herb farm located on Long Island in Boston Harbor, certified by The Northeast Organic Farming Association for environmentally sound and sustainable agriculture. Each year, The Farm produces nearly 30,000 pounds of high quality, first harvest produce for more than 800 homeless individuals served each day. The Farm also provides hands-on job training, work-readiness skills, life skills and education for homeless individuals as part of the Serving Ourselves Job Training Program.
