The annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Breakfast is Boston’s premier and the nation’s longest-running event dedicated to the memory of Dr. King. The breakfast features engaging speeches, delicious food, live music, and is attended by a diverse gathering of civic, community, and religious leaders from across Massachusetts. The 2016 keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Ruth Simmons, education pioneer and president emerita of Brown University. Dr. Simmons was the first African American to serve as president of an Ivy League college and the first African-American women to head a major American university (Smith College). She has a profound commitment to education and has made significant contributions to justice, racial equality, and civil discourse. Event proceeds fund student scholarships and community programs sponsored by Union United Methodist Church and St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church.
