Kelly Brabants, founder of the innovative Boston-based fitness and fashion brand, Booty by Brabants™, will host the 2nd annual “Bootys for the Battle” fundraiser on Saturday, July 23, at The Seaport Hotel & World Trade Center to benefit METAvivor, a metastatic breast cancer awareness, research and support organization that Brabants holds especially close to her heart since the devastating Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC) diagnosis of her lifelong best friend’s mother, Barbara Bigelow. Joining Brabants on her mission to raise funds and awareness for MBC this year will be celebrity emcees, star New England running back Dion Lewis and JAM’S 94.5FM’s turntable master, DJ Pup Dawg.
Currently, less than 7% of funds raised for breast cancer are devoted to MBC research, and there has been no change in MBC statistics in 20 years.
Taking place on the idyllic outdoor concourse of the Seaport Hotel & World Trade Center, Brabants will host the biggest “Booty by Brabants” fitness class ever in loving support of the cause. DJ Pup Dawg will pump up the jams while Brabants leads more than 350 people in the ultimate “Bootys for the Battle” challenge; 100% of the ticket sales, raffle and auction proceeds will be donated toward research for metastatic breast cancer. Following the 50-minute class where supporters will dance, lunge and jump toward finding a cure for MBC, there will be a cool down cocktail reception with cash bar immediately following the class which will feature a live auction emceed by Dion Lewis, raffles, and a special Booty by Brabants trunk show. (10% of sales from Brabants’ clothing lines will be donated to METAvivor.)
Barbara Bigelow is a resident of Easton, MA, a wife and mother of two beautiful girls, a school psychologist, and a long term cancer patient. After 13 years in remission, Barbara was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer in February of 2015. Bigelow has been an open book about her battle, candidly sharing her musings and updates on her blog The Cancer Chronicles, in hopes of bringing additional awareness to MBC.
“Every day, 108 women and men die of MBC with no cure in sight. This has to change, for my daughters and your daughters, wives, and sisters,” said Bigelow. “I will do anything I can do to help find a cure and ‘Bootys for the Battle’ allows me to be part of raising awareness to educate people about MBC and to support METavivor in funding research and more clinical trials. We all need to much more than has been done to date and this event is an important step in motivating soldiers in this battle.”
