The 2017 Renegade Run Obstacle Course Race
What: This is an obstacle course race and party. For adults: 4 miles and 25 obstacles! For children: a mini obstacle race and a HUGE inflatable obstacle course as well!
Set up in picturesque Wompatuck State Park, Hingham, MA, Renegade Run is a challenging course leading you through a mixture of paved trails and wooded terrain. Our obstacles will certainly be a challenge, but attainable for everyone. You will find over 25 obstacles spread over 4 miles of our beautiful scenic course. Monkey bars to cross, walls to climb, tunnels to crawl through and our cargo net climb are just a few that await our Renegades. In addition to the inspiring (and sometimes amusing) signage dotting the course, our cheerful team of volunteers will be providing enthusiastic support to help encourage our runners along.
Not just an event it is an experience – runners, their families and friends are invited to come together with the local community and join the party! Post run activities include food cooked on-site, beer tent, live concert, Mini-Renegade obstacle course for the kids and more! The course is also open to the public so you can cheer on, take pictures or meet your runner anywhere along the route. There will be tech t-shirts for registrants, a complimentary beer for those 21+, and finisher medals for those who complete the run, free parking and no spectator fee! And this year, we picked a day that our beloved Patriots are playing an 8:30 PM late game, so you can spend the afternoon celebrating with us and thousands of your closest new friends and still be home for kickoff!
The Cause: The Renegade Run was created to support Dr. Denise Faustman’s research in curing Type 1 Diabetes in the Faustman Lab in Massachusetts General Hospital. Type 1 Diabetes is autoimmune, it is not lifestyle. The body attacks the pancreas and they no longer release insulin to manage blood sugar, so they depend on insulin injections or the pump. Too high or too low of a blood sugar can lead to coma and death. Every. Single. Day. Life is a constant balancing act to maintain perfect blood sugar and avoid medical emergencies. Dr. Faustman’s research is revolutionary because she discovered a vaccine that stopped the attack on the pancreas in Phase 1 and patients began producing insulin again. She is in Phase 2 of human trials determining proper dose to permanently reverse the condition. Yes, a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. Yes, a vacation from the constant 24/7 vigilance to keep loved ones alive. Yes, the ability to sleep, eat and live peacefully without fear, panic, anxiety and worry of catastrophic events every moment of their life. Yes the ability to get happy about birthday presents and eat meals without a terrible high blood glucose, which can lead to blindness, amputations, organ failure, stroke, coma. YES a cure for Type 1 Diabetes!
Why: Additional funding is needed to complete her work. The Vaccine is already available in the generic form. This means there isn’t a lot of money to be made off of this cure treatment. Biggest donations have come from the Lee Iacocca Foundation and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation out of their pure heart and personal desire to help end the constant struggle and suffering of this deadly condition . Her work is not funded by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or American Diabetes Association.
