About Little Black Dress Initiative
Are you willing to wear the same black outfit for five days as part of a campaign to bring awareness to sexual & domestic violence? That’s what the Junior League of Boston is asking members of the Boston community to do as part of the Little Black Dress Initiative between Feb. 25 and March 2.
The Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI) is a campaign of the Junior League of Boston to bring awareness to poverty and violence against women, and the impacts they can have on a woman’s access to resources, her confidence and professional opportunities.
This year, we hope to raise $30,000 to support initiatives in the greater Boston community that are working to end to violence against women. By wearing the same outfit for five days, advocates will experience see life through the eyes of a woman who doesn’t have anything in her closet or the money to buy something new. The outfit will inevitably get dirty as the week goes on. People may look at you differently and you might not feel as confident and secure. The goal is to create understanding of how it feels to lack access to basic resources.
The 2019 LBDI fund recipients are the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC) and Catie’s Closet.
