What a better way to honor those who have fallen than to create a safe and healthy space for young stars to learn, grow, and thrive. For this year’s National Day of Service, the Lowell 1st Service Platoon will partner with Mill City Grows and the Abraham Lincoln Elementary School to transform a shared community and school garden space.

This will be a high-impact project, and over the course of the day we will:

– Install 9 bed raised gardening beds and fill them for use,
– Top dress and seed along a newly installed retaining wall,
– Put down landscaping fabric and mulch,
– Build a new outdoor shed for tools and materials,
– Build planter and portable benches for an outdoor classroom, and
– Expand the path to the garden by clearing overgrown brush and adding gravel.

This is a family- and kid-friendly event. We will have service projects and activities for children, teens, and adults. Music, snacks, and lunch will be provided!
