The Party for PYD Benefit is a centerpiece event for Partners for Youth with Disabilities dedicated to raising program funds and awareness of mentoring, and celebrating our successes and partnerships with you. The event will include live and silent auctions, hors d’oeuvres, and refreshments. Learn more about the event here. William Schawbel is the Founder and CEO of The Schawbel Corporation, a business he formed in 1981 through the acquisition of two divisions from The Gillette Company. In July of 2014, the Schawbel Corporation was sold and Schawbel Technologies LLC was formed. The new company includes consumer product development and research along with the ThermaCELL Heated Insoles business.
Prior to founding The Schawbel Corporation, Bill held senior management positions with The Gillette Company, including President of Gillette-Japan and President of Braun North America. His marketing and management experience includes significant contributions to many of Gillette’s divisions within the United States and internationally, with particular success in the areas of acquisitions and new business development.
Mr. Schawbel is a graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and has served his alma mater as a Trustee, Chair of the Board of Overseers, School of Veterinary Medicine, and Co-Chair of the James Brister Society. Bill is an alumnus of the Boston Latin School, where he has served as President of the School’s Foundation and chaired its Capital Campaign Committee. He is past chair of Junior Achievement of Northern New England, past vice chair of the Boston Museum of Science, past chair of the Blue Hills Trailside Museum of the Massachusetts Audubon Society, and was a founding board member of the Center for Women and Enterprise. Mr. Schawbel has also chaired a number of not-for-profit engineering projects that required collaboration with global companies such as General Electric Company and Johnson Controls, Inc. Bill proudly served his country as a captain in the U.S. Army.
Melissa M. MacDonnell is President of Liberty Mutual Foundation and Vice President of Liberty Mutual Insurance. She manages Liberty Mutual’s philanthropy program, executive speechwriting, employee giving and employee community service.
Melissa serves on the Board of Directors of Horizons for Homeless Children and the Don and Marilyn Rodman Foundation; the Leadership Advisory Board for Rosie’s Place and as a volunteer at the Sudanese Community Center. For fifteen years, she served as a big sister for a girl from Germaine Lawrence, a residential treatment program for girls. Over the years, she has served as Vice Chair of the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts and Mass Mentoring Partnership. She also has served as Chair of Faith and Action at United Way and on the board of Bruce Wall Ministries. She has helped chair record-breaking fundraisers for Big Sister Association, Whittier Street Health Center, Salvation Army and Community Servings, among others. Throughout her career, she has received the Women for Whittier Award and has been named to the Academy of Women Achievers by the YWCA, top 40 under 40, one of Boston’s ten outstanding young leaders, and a participant in Boston Women Build in the Bayou. She was also a recipient of the Big Sister’s BFF Award.
Melissa earned her BS in finance with a concentration in Spanish from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, an MBA from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College and a Master’s in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School.

Muhammad Ali, Lonnie Ali & Muhammad Ali Center
As one of the most iconic athletes of our time, world-class boxer Muhammad Ali leveraged his fame in the most generous of ways. His awareness of the needs of the developing world, reflected by celebrated fights in Kinshasa, Manila, and Kuala Lumpur, guides much of his good work. He served as a symbol of hope and a catalyst for constructive dialogue during missions to Afghanistan and North Korea, delivered sorely-needed medical supplies to an embargoed Cuba, secured the release of 15 U.S. hostages from Iraq during the first Gulf War, and journeyed to South Africa to exalt Nelson Mandela upon his release from prison. Mr. Ali’s efforts proved instrumental in providing more than 22 million meals to the world’s hungry. Traveling across continents, he hand-delivered food and medical supplies to children in Cote d’Ivoire, Indonesia, Mexico, Morocco, among many other countries.
Most recently, Mr. Ali lent his name in support of the Hope for Haiti Now telethon, raising millions of dollars for desperate victims of that disaster. As testament to his work in developing nations, the United Nations named him a Messenger of Peace, and he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, as well as Amnesty International’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
Beyond Mr. Ali’s international efforts, he was equally devoted to helping charities at home. Countless soup kitchens, hospitals, the Make-A-Wish-Foundation, and the Special Olympics all benefit from his attention and generosity. Each year, he hosted Celebrity Fight Night, an auction and gala which has generated more than $60 million for charity. In 2007, he joined Mario Lemieux, Andre Agassi, Lance Armstrong, and other major sports figures to found Athletes for Hope, a charitable organization to encourage athletes, their fans, and the corporate community to support local charities. He has also contributed substantially to the awareness and research efforts for Parkinson’s disease. In 1997, he established the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center and Movement Disorders Clinic at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, to bring hope, comfort, and treatments to patients and their families.
In 2005, Ali and his wife Lonnie opened the Muhammad Ali Center, the 93,000 sq. ft. facility in their native Louisville, Kentucky, that embodies Muhammad’s ability to inspire. This state-of-the-art tribute to his accomplishments and the exemplary values that guided his life also functions as a cultural attraction and international education center, infusing future generations from around the world with his intense, indomitable spirit.
Muhammad Ali passed away on June 3, 2016 at the age of 74.
The Muhammad Ali Center, a 501(c)3 corporation, was co-founded by Muhammad Ali and his wife Lonnie in their hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.
