New England Sings is a vocal competition organized by Kara DioGuardi, former American Idol judge to support her favorite charities, including the Enough Abuse Campaign to prevent child sexual abuse. Anyone between the ages of 12 and 28 who resides in New England is encouraged to apply. See details on www.newenglandsings.com . First prize for this local American Idol-type event is $500 and a recording session with Kara, a Grammy and Emmy-nominated songwriter, producer, music executive and Herb Albert Visiting Scholar at Berklee College of Music. As one of the most successful contemporary songwriters in the world, Kara’s songs have appeared on more than 160 million albums. She has won 20 BMI awards for most performed songs and was the 2006 songwriter of the year. She’s had over 320 songs released by major labels, 150 songs on platinum selling albums, and over 50 charting singles. Her credits include successes and collaborations with artists such as P!nk, Katy Perry, Celine Dion, Kelly Clarkson, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Gwen Stefani, Carrie Underwood, Enrique Iglesias, Rascal Flatts, The Band Perry, Darius Rucker, Faith Hill, Santana, and many more.
Runner up to the competition will receive $250. All finalists will receive Converse sneakers. Tickets for VIP Reception which begins at 5:30 PM are also available.
The Enough Abuse Campaign, led by Boston-based MassKids, is a movement of concerned citizens committed to educating parents and youth about child sexual abuse and how to prevent it. It works with schools and youth organizations to develop policies and practices to keep children safe and works to support legislation to prevent sexual abuse, ensure justice for survivors, and accountability for abusers. www.enoughabuse.org
