The event will begin at 6pm with a Silent Auction and reception, followed by dinner, entertainment and an award ceremony that will recognize three outstanding honorees who have made significant contributions to improving the lives of children with disabilities. This year, the Federation is pleased to recognize the following three honorees: Amy Weinstock, Director of the Autism Insurance Resource Center, who will receive the Martha Zeigler Founders Award; Deborah Allen, Director of the Bureau of Child, Adolescent and Family Health at the Boston Public Health Commission, who will receive the President’s Award, and Maureen Brenner, Head of School at the Riverview School, who will receive the Patricia Blake Advocacy Award.
The Federation for Children with Special Needs was founded in 1974 by parents of children with disabilities and is recognized both locally and nationally as a pioneering organization that advocates for quality education, strong parent participation and access to quality health care services for all children, especially those with disabilities. Currently the Federation houses over 15 major projects, providing information, training, support and resources to parents of children with and without disabilities, parents of children with special health care needs, their professional partners, and their communities.
The reputation of the Federation as a knowledgeable and comprehensive provider of information services for parents of children with disabilities and special health care needs has continued to grow, and the Federation now serves over 45,000 families in Massachusetts annually.
