Framingham, MA—The United Way of Tri-County’s Annual Recognition Breakfast will be held at the Best Western Royal Plaza Hotel and Trade Center in Marlborough at 7:30 am on Thursday April 7, 2016. This year’s theme, inspired by the idea that individual actions have a far reaching impact, is “The Ripple Effect: Changing Lives, Building Communities”, and will highlight individuals and businesses who have supported the United Way of Tri-County and the local community during the year.
President and CEO of the United Way of Tri-County Paul Mina said “each year we invite local residents to our annual breakfast to celebrate and recognize individuals and businesses in the MetroWest/495 Corridor community. These people and organizations have supported their neighbors in need and help spread goodwill throughout the area. We are grateful for their support and want to show our appreciation and thanks”.
The event keynote speaker is Massachusetts native Dan Pallotta, known for inventing the multi-day charitable event industry, with such events as the multi day AIDS Rides and Breast Cancer 3-Day walks. These events empowered ordinary individuals seeking to make an extraordinary difference. Dan also created the “Out of the Darkness” suicide prevention events, which shed light on this difficult issue and helped make open discussion about suicide acceptable. The model and methods he created are now employed by dozens of charities and have raised in excess of $2 billion for important causes.
Dan is also the founder and Chief Humanity Officer of Advertising for Humanity, a full-service brand and inspiration agency for the humanitarian sector. He is founder and President of the Charity Defense Council, a new national leadership movement dedicated to transforming the way the donating public thinks about charity and change, and has been honored with many humanitarian awards. He is an author and lecturer, and his iconic TED 2013 talk has been viewed more than 3-million times, and is one of the top 100 most-viewed of all time.
In addition to honoring their supporters, the United Way will recognize two outstanding volunteers from the Metrowest/495 Region who during the past year have given countless hours of their time in the service of those most in need. These individuals are volunteers from outside the United Way of Tri-County organization and have been nominated by their peers from the community at large.
Both the Volunteer of the Year award, and the Youth Volunteer of the Year award will be presented at the April 7th event.
Nominations for both the Volunteer of the Year and Youth Volunteer of the Year are being accepted through February 19 and should be submitted online at the United Way’s website at www.uwotc.org/nominate. Everyone in the MetroWest/495 region is encouraged to submit a nomination for anyone they feel deserves recognition for their dedication and willingness to serve the community as a volunteer.
