On Saturday, April 9th at 5:30 pm at the Royal Sonesta Boston Hotel in Cambridge we will gather to celebrate the strength, heart and soul of our Portuguese-speaking communities in eastern Massachusetts. The Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers (MAPS) Awards Gala is an elegant event which starts with a Red Carpet arrival and cocktail hour. Approximately 400 attendees will enjoy a delicious ballroom banquet, an awards ceremony honoring notable and influential community leaders, Silent and Live Auctions, Raffle, musical entertainment, and much more. Guests will include key representatives from the Brazilian, Cabo Verdean and Portuguese communities, as well as public officials, dignitaries, business leaders and media members.
The 2016 Award Recipients are:
David Simas, Assistant to President Barack Obama and Director of the Office of Political Strategy and Outreach, who will receive the MAPS Person of the Year Award; Victor Do Couto, Former Executive Director of MAPS and COPA, and former MAPS Board Member, who will receive the MAPS Mary and Manuel Rogers Lifetime Community Service Award; Lidia Souza, Founder of New England Community Center in Stoughton, Volunteer and Community Leader, who will receive the MAPS Manuel N. Coutinho Outstanding Volunteer Award; Maria Moreira, Founder of Flats Mentor Farm, who will receive the MAPS Álvaro Lima Outstanding Business Award and Aminah Pilgrim, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Africana Studies at UMass Boston, CVC UNIDO Board Member and Founder of HIPHOP Initiative, who will receive the MAPS Jorge Fidalgo Community Service Award.
