Just 50 miles south of Boston, the Buzzards Bay Swim features a one-of-a-kind scenic point-to-point course across outer New Bedford Harbor. Assisted by the U.S. Coast Guard and a local safety patrol, swimmers navigate 1.2 miles through the harbor and channel, passing by the iconic Butler Flats Lighthouse and the New Bedford Hurricane Barrier, one of the largest stone structures on the East Coast. At the thrilling finish, swimmers are welcomed with a beach party featuring a live steel drum band, pancakes cooked to order, gourmet coffee, free massages, and local beer!
Free shuttle provides transportation to start line. Swim solo or with a team – all are eligible for awards and prizes. Open to ages 11 and up. Chip timed and competitive, qualifications apply. Novice swimmers welcome and encouraged to use a kayak escort and/or swim aids.
The Buzzards Bay Swim is a fundraiser for clean water. $25 registration fee and $150 (pay-or-raise) fundraising minimum per swimmer. Youth teams raise $200 per every four swimmers.
Seeing is believing — come try out this awesome and energetic community event!
Registration will open on January 1, 2018. For more information, visit www.savebuzzardsbay.org/swim
“My friend and I were first time swimmers and we had a blast. We felt so encouraged and welcome by every single person that worked at the event. We will definitely be back next year!” – Shannon S.
